Pre-painted galvanized steel combines utility with beauty. It consists of tin, chrome, zinc or paint, which are the extra finish applied to the natural steel surface. The application of coating is to protect the surface of steel from oxidation and it is also used to enhance requirements for visual appearance.


Before we start discussing the difference between the two, it’s important you know what the terms “PPGI” and “PPGL” expand to. PPGI, which refers to Pre-painted galvanized iron steel. While PPGL stands for Pre-painted galvalume steel. Both of these steel variants are also known by the name of color coated steel in the industry.

So, what’s the difference between PPGI Steel Coil and PPGL Steel Coil ? Below we will show you an answer.

The primary difference between the two types of steel coil is in the coating applied to each variant. PPGI or pre-painted galvanized iron steel coil is evenly covered with a layer of zinc. The zinc coating provides anodic protection to the base material, prolonging the product’s service life.

PPGL or pre-painted galvalume steel coil, on the other hand, is coated with a mix of aluminum, zinc and other trace elements. The usual composition of galvalume coating is 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% trace elements.
